'Beauty of what they left behind;'

Watercolor by Joyce McJilton Dwyer in her show “Old Spaces, Ancient Places: Scotland & Ireland,’’ at 8 Bridges Gallery, Maynard, Mass., through June 29.

The gallery says: “Dwyer's watercolor paintings and pencil and ink drawings depict the landscapes, waterscapes, and archaeological sites of Scotland and Northern Ireland. She imagines what the settlement of Skara Brae and other villages might have looked like thousands of years ago in their prime. ‘Much is unknown about these cultures of so long ago, but the beauty of what they left behind caught me up,’ Dwyer says.
