Swans and New Yorkers
“Round the point flotillas of swans come trailing
sunlit V’s and W’s, otherworldy,
but a little corny. When they arrived here
No one remembers.
Nor can we remember the explanation
why the swans are in the ascendant, surging
Even as our own population trickles
Out to the suburbs.
Garbo Lobster’s fleet has been sold; Monsanto,
windows broken whistles an absent air; New
Yorkers long since bought up the nicer houses;
God, it’s depressing….’’
-- From “Neoclassical,’’ by Daniel Hall
Garbo Lobster is based in Groton, Conn., but has a major operation in Hancock, on the Maine coast.
